UNY collaborates with Disdikpora to Improve the Quality of English Teaching in Kebumen

In an attempt to improve the quality of English education in Kebumen, several junior high school teachers participated in a specialized training on Differentiated Instruction for English subjects. This training was organized in collaboration with the Kebumen Department of Education, Youth, and Sports and the English Education Department of UNY. The aim is to equip teachers with the skills necessary to meet the diverse learning needs of students. Differentiated instruction acknowledges that each student has different learning styles, paces, and abilities. Therefore, teachers are expected to adjust their teaching methods so that all students can reach their maximum potential.

Teachers in Kebumen, like those in other areas, face several challenges in teaching English. Large class sizes, limited access to technology and learning resources, and a curriculum that emphasizes flexibility, such as the Merdeka Curriculum, require teachers to continuously innovate their teaching methods. The training aims to enhance knowledge and skills, providing teachers with a deeper understanding of differentiated instruction concepts and practical skills for daily application. It also boosts teachers' confidence in addressing diverse student abilities in the classroom, makes learning more engaging by encouraging active student participation, and has the potential to improve student achievement by meeting individual learning needs.

Through this collaboration, it is hoped that the quality of education in Kebumen can continue to improve. This differentiated instruction training is a crucial step in enhancing the quality of English education in Kebumen. With the new knowledge and skills acquired, teachers are expected to create a more inclusive and effective learning environment, ensuring that all students have equal opportunities for success.
