Yogyakarta — The English Language Education Study Program (PBI) of the Faculty of Language, Arts, and Culture at Yogyakarta State University (FBSB UNY) continues to support national strategic programs in the fields of defense and technology. In collaboration with PT Sapta Cakra Manunggal (SCM) and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia (KEMHAN), PBI FBSB UNY organized an English Training for Drone Pilots program for Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel.

This training aims to equip TNI personnel with the English language skills necessary to participate in drone piloting training in Jordan. The program runs for two weeks, from June 16 to July 1, 2025, and involves personnel from the three branches of the armed forces: the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force.

The training materials focus on English for Drone Pilots, covering tactical communication in drone operation, giving and receiving instructions, technical drone terminology, flight safety procedures, and simulated communication in field operation scenarios. The teaching methods are practice-based, utilizing dialogue and simulation to ensure participants effectively master communication skills and technical vocabulary.

In addition, six undergraduate and graduate PBI students also participated as training assistants: Fauziyyah Mufida Suni, Putri Sarifah Muslihah Salma, Queen Nasir Octavia Sanjaya, Yasmin Alya Hana, Shifa Mantika Nur Aulia, and Alif Azzaki, S.Pd.

The Head of the PBI Study Program at UNY, Dr. Nunik Sugesti, stated, “PBI UNY is committed to supporting the professionalism of TNI personnel through English training that is both practical and tailored to operational needs. We hope this training can make a meaningful contribution to the success of the drone piloting mission in Jordan.”

The participating soldiers enthusiastically engaged in the training and appreciated the contextual, practice-based learning approach. This program further underscores the role of PBI FBSB UNY in advancing English for Military Purposes, particularly English for Drone Pilots, as well as Indonesia’s contribution to international defense missions.
