Yogyakarta – The Teaching Practicum (PK) that is conducted by English Education students at the Vocational School of Pajangan was not merely a means of developing teaching skills but also an effort to broaden students’ exposure to the English language. During the observation, the student teachers were aware of the small amount of English interaction occurring inside and outside the class. The environment surrounding the school itself can be a huge contribution to students using English in their daily lives. Using formal and conventional learning in the class, the student teachers hope to create a supportive learning environment that uses the English language actively. This program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, especially in supporting an inclusive and meaningful learning opportunity for students.

In its implementation, the student teachers not only delivered English materials formally, but also designed activities that encouraged students to use English directly. One of the materials used was expressions of opinion, which was developed through various interactive activities such as This or That, simple discussions, sharing opinions, and dialogue practice. Through these activities, students were encouraged to express their opinions about topics that are close to their daily lives using English. The learning process was carried out gradually, starting from introducing vocabulary and expressions that could be used, giving examples, practicing together, and finally practicing independently. Therefore, the classroom was not only a place to learn theory, but also a space for students to gain experience in using English.

These activities also gave students the opportunity to interact with English in a more communicative learning environment. Students began to gain experience in expressing their opinions, responding to other people's opinions, and using English expressions in simple conversations. Besides increasing their opportunities to practice, these activities were also expected to help build students' courage and confidence in using English. For the student teachers, these activities became an experience that helped them understand that improving the quality of learning does not only depend on the materials given, but also on how students are given enough opportunities to participate and practice what they have learned.

Through the Teaching Practicum (PK), the student teachers hope that our efforts to provide English exposure to students, especially the students of SMK Negeri 1 Pajangan, can continue to develop. The student teachers also hope that English can be experienced not only in the classroom but also in students' daily lives. Through efforts like this, we can help students see English not only as a school subject, but also as a skill and a means of communication with their classmates and the people around them.
