PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

The English Language Educational Study Programme set out 15 Program Learning Outcomes (PLO) which are classified into 4 areas:

Attitude

Attitude aspects refer to proper and cultured attitude in the forms of values and norms which are demonstrated in students’ spiritual, personal, and social life. These aspects are attained through learning, work experience, research, and/or field-related community services. The attitude aspects include

  • (PLO 1) demonstrating religious practice, nationality, humanity, tolerance, morality and behavior
  • (PLO 2) applying the principles of work ethics covering responsibility, independence, discipline, leadership, entrepreneurship, and teamwork.

 

Knowledge

Knowledge aspects, or known as cognitive aspects, refer to the mastery of concepts, theories, methods, and/or underlying philosophy within a particular field. Knowledge is gained systematically through reasoning activities in learning, work experience, research, and/or field-related community services. The knowledge aspects include:

  • (PLO 3) applying English learning theory which includes design, implementation, assessment, development of teaching materials, and English language learning programs
  • (PLO 4) applying the theory of translating and interpreting written and spoken English and Indonesian texts
  • (PLO 5) applying theory and research methodology in the field of English and English language learning
  • (PLO 6) applying the theory of providing English services for special purposes.

 

General skills

Every graduate must possess general skills in accordance with their program level and type of higher education to ensure that all graduates have an equal ability. The general skills that the students must possess upon completion of their course in English Language Education Study Program of UNY include:

  • (PLO 7) applying logical, critical, systematic, and innovative thinking in the context of scientific development by utilizing information technology
  • (PLO 8) applying effective and efficient communicative competence in social interpersonal, professional as well as academic contexts
  • (PLO 9) maintaining and developing cooperation networks at the national, regional and international levels, and
  • (PLO 10) gaining independent and life-long learning habits to develop knowledge and skills.

 

Specific skills

Every graduate must possess specific skills that are relevant to the academic disciplines of the study program. The specific skills that the students must possess upon completion of their course in English Language Education Study Program of UNY include:

  • (PLO 11) designing, implementing, and evaluating English learning process
  • (PLO 12) analyzing and solving problems in English and its teaching based on scientific principles, procedures and ethics
  • (PLO 13) designing, developing, and evaluating teaching materials and English learning programs
  • (PLO 14) designing, developing, and evaluating assessment tools as well as analyzing and reporting on the results of the assessment of English mastery
  • (PLO 15) translating and interpreting various written and spoken texts from English to Indonesian and vice versa.
